1. NIT SPORTS MEET AT NIT WARANGAL Team NIT Silchar for the first time participated in the inter nit football meet at NIT Warangal and reached the quarter finals.

Slowly but steadily the game of Basketball is making a name in Indian households for its fast paced play style and NIT Silchar recognizes that enthusiasm in the players and encourages them to take the game to new heights. The Tournaments and major practice sessions at NIT Silchar are as follows-

CRICKET
Being an institute in India and lacking in Cricket facility is as absurd as putting together the broken pieces of vase. In the same way, the cricket facilities of NIT Silchar are like the flowers in the vase of Sports Club. The NIT Silchar has an extravaganza of Cricketing Tournaments to meet the ever rising expectations of the Cricket enthusiasts and players alike. NIT Silchar takes part or organises the following events-

Mountaineering and Trekking
NIT Silchar is a great place for adventure lovers as it whole heartedly endorses the mountain and trekking club. It helps and nurtures the growing interest of mountain climbers and those who wants to challenge the ever so mysterious terrains of the mountains.

Kabaddi And Kho-Kho
NIT Silchar boasts of a very rich sporting culture in Kabaddi and Kho-Kho, having a well maintained clay court of internationally approved dimensions, regular inter hostel and inter competitions are being organized in the premises. A college Kabaddi team is particularly trained and prepared for representing the college in various inter-college competitions like Inter-NIT Sports Meet, where the team members are selected from the best Kabaddi players of the college. Regular Kabaddi sessions are organized by the Hockey & Kabaddi Secretary of the Gymkhana Students’ Union Body under the guidance of Sports Secretary and Sports Officer


The college team is a well-crafted and rigorously trained team on an amateur level, consisting of good raiders, defenders and all-rounders. The freshmen students are taught about the basics of the games right from the beginning with practice matches being held on regular intervals to check the growth the students in the sports.
Athletics and Gym
One of the most vibrant clubs of NIT Silchar is its Athletics and Gymnastics Club, conducting several thrilling events on workout and field & track related sports. This club is responsible for conducting fitness events like body building competition, powerlifting, and arm wrestling along with athletics events like sprinting, marathon run, javelin throw, shot put throw, discus throw and cycling; throughout the year. Recently, this club has started Yoga training in the campus which attracted a lot of participation.


Inter NIT Sports Meet
The Inter NIT Chess and Table Tennis competition 2015 was held in the premises of NIT Silchar from 16th October to 18th October. The opening ceremony started the proceedings and for events like Inter-NIT, the opening ceremony was arranged in a big way. There were various NITs that took part in the sports in both the Boys and Girls category. For table tennis the category was further subdivided into Singles and Team Event. A total of 15 NIT teams took part in the Table Tennis Tournament and 12 teams took part in the Chess tournament. Following are the winners of the Events-
Chess
The winner in Boy`s category was from SVNIT Surat followed by MANIT Bhopal and NIT Calicut The winner in the Girl`s Category was from NIT Silchar followed by SVNIT Surat and NIT Raipur.
Table Tennis
The winner in Boy`s Single Category was from MANIT Bhopal followed by both MNNIT Allahabad. The Winner in Girl`s Single Category was from NIT Durgapur followed by both SVNIT Surat. The Winner in Boys’ Team Event Category was from MNNIT Allahabad followed by NIT Silchar and MANIT Bhopal. The Winners in Girls’ Team Event Category was from NIT Durgapur followed by SVNIT Surat and NIT Agartala.
& Fine Arts
Obiettivo is the official photography club of NIT Silchar that functions under the supreme body of Gymkhana. Creative the name it is, Obiettivo in Italian stands for lens. Student's Activities

Manthan
MANTHAN'17, a show of respect for the Hindi language, was organized in NIT Silchar on the 14th of September, 2017 with the aim of promoting admiration for Hindi culture amongst the NIT family. In this age when this culture is striving hard to abstain from the ever so growing encroachment offoreign influence, the students of NIT Silchar came up with their solemn vow to keep upthe age of Hindi culture strong and binding.

Alumni Meet
Alumni Meet'17 was an emotional event which offered an opportunity to rejuvenate amidst the company of old boys and girls. NIT Silchar has the custom of welcoming its alumni after an interval of twenty five years, thus in its sixth incarnation, this meet was dedicated to the pass out batch of 1992.

Independence day
NITS being the abode of patriotic souls, celebrated the 69th Independence day with great zeal and enthusiasm. The tricolor was hoisted by Director Sir, followed by his inspiring speech. Events that followed included the marvellous parade by the NCC cadets that set a remarkable example of synchronization.

Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Day
The ILLUMINITS organised Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Day on the 76th death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, India' s most beloved and revered poet i.e. on the 7th of August 2017. It was an attempt to inculcate the noble values of the great man in everyone and introduce the young generation to the wonderful poems and songs he composed. The event comprised of Rabindra Sangeet competition as an ode to his classic songs, dance performances by the students, recitation of his poetic masterpieces by the students and faculty members and on the spot poetry and prose writing competition in English,Hindi and Bengali. The event was a success and applauded by one and all.

General Fresher's
A breathtaking and amazing night was put up by the Gymkhana Union body to welcome the freshmen to the college. The program unleashed overwhelming fun and excitement by the awe inspiring performances of the students. The most awaited " Mr. & Miss Fresher' s " competition was also conducted on that day itself.

Rakshabandhan
Considering the great importance of this traditional festival, the Rakshabandhan Celebration was organised in the college on 30th August with a view to make everyone aware of the true significance of the occasion. The Honourable Director Sir, Professor NV Deshpande, correctly emphasized that Rakshabandhan is not only constrained to the relationship between brothers and sisters, but it also signifies that the strong must protect the weak from all evils.
The President And His Functions
2024-25 Members
- The President will ensure that all records of the Gymkhana are properly maintained by the Gymkhana office.
- The President shall have the control on the gymkhana and their inventory of all sports and their equipment.
- The president has the supreme authority in all the matters related to the members of Gymkhana (i.e., the students of National Institute of Technology, Silchar).
- The President consults only the Vice-President of the Gymkhana and entertains only the Vice- President’s pleas or the pleas forwarded by him. In special case, the General Secretary(Gymkhana) can bear the complete discretionary power of the President. However the President can consult any member(including non-voting members) of the GC as per will.
Dr. Wasim Arif obtained his Bachelor of Technology from Burdwan University in 2003. He obtained his Master of Technology from Jadavpur University in 2008 and Ph.D. from NIT Silchar in 2015.
He joined the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar on 10 May, 2010 as an Assistant Professor in the department of ECE. He is presently working as Associate Professor.

Incandescence is the annual cultural festival of NIT Silchar, a grand celebration of creativity, expression, and the vibrant spirit of youth. It brings the entire campus alive with electrifying performances in music, dance, drama, fashion, and literature, showcasing the incredible talent and diversity of the student community. The event is helmed by the General Secretary Cultural, who serves as the Chief Coordinator, leading with vision and enthusiasm. Backing this leadership is a vibrant and energetic team of students whose passion, dedication, and hard work truly make the event come to life. Incandescence is more than just a fest—it's an emotion that unites the NIT Silchar family through the shared joy of art and culture.

Deepotsav
Deepotsav is one of the most heartwarming and spiritually uplifting events celebrated at NIT Silchar. Held around the time of Diwali, Deepotsav transforms the campus into a glowing haven of light, peace, and unity. Thousands of diyas are lit across the institute, creating a mesmerizing and serene atmosphere that brings together students, faculty, and staff in a collective celebration of joy and togetherness. The event often includes cultural performances, traditional music, and activities that reflect the essence of Indian heritage and festivity. Deepotsav is not just about lighting lamps— it's about spreading warmth, positivity, and a sense of community, reminding everyone that even a small light can dispel the deepest darkness.

The celebration includes speeches, cultural performances, and patriotic songs that ignite the spirit of nationalism and responsibility among everyone present. The lush green campus, adorned with tricolor decorations, becomes a symbol of unity in diversity. Independence Day at NIT Silchar is not just a ceremonial event—it’s a powerful reminder of our duty towards the nation and the collective dream of a better, brighter India.
Facilities
Amidst the natural beauty of Assam, National Institute of Technology, Silchar has a vast campus of around 600 acres. The greenery and the lakes enhance the scenic beauty of this campus. NIT Silchar has developed immensely, since 2002, in its facilities considering education, co-curricular activities etc. Today, it has a well-furnished and maintained campus with promising developments in the coming days.
Academic and General Facilities
The Institute has an administrative block for the official work. It has well-built lecture classrooms for various technical departments as well as general studies. It has fully equipped and efficient labs for practical studies like chemistry lab, physics lab, engineering graphics lab etc. Also different departments in the institute have their own labs and workshops like the mechanical workshop, the supercomputing center, etc. With our very own Research Promotion Cell and Indovation Lab, ample opportunities are made available to the intriguing minds of our students. The college provides proper transportation services, in from of free bus and van services to its students for their conveyance. Further there is a full-fledged core banking branch of State Bank of India which operates inside the campus.
Sports
Coming to the Fitness and sports section, our institute has a well-equipped and furnished Gym maintained by the Gymkhana Students Union Body and NITS authorities in collaboration. Well maintained playgrounds and kits as required for various sports like Football, Cricket, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho and Hockey are available to the students. There are hard courts for basketball, volleyball and badminton within the campus. The heart of indoor activities for NIT Silchar's student fraternity is the students' activity center, also known as SAC; which provides epitome of facilities in indoor sports like Table Tennis, Badminton and Boxing. The institute is also coming up with a new green energy based sports complex for indoor and outdoor games in which the state-of-the-art facilities for various games and sports will be made available to the students. Here again, the responsibility of maintaining these hyperactive sports centers falls on the shoulders of Gymkhana Students Union Body.
