Apply to the PhD Program under Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase II Sponsored by MeitY, Govt. of India, Academic Year: 2025 - 26 at NIT Silchar

Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, has granted scholarships under the "Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase II". Under this scheme, admissions are currently open to the PhD degree program on a Full-Time and Part-Time basis. This scheme has the following features.

FULL-TIME CANDIDATES:

  1. Monthly scholarship of Rs. 38750/- for the first two years and Rs. 43750/- for the rest 3 years (support up to 5 years).
  2. Reimbursement of Rent (ROR): As per funding agency norms, if accommodation is not provided by the Institute.
  3. Annual contingency grant up to Rs. 1,20,000 per year.
  4. Financial Support for attending international conferences.

PART-TIME CANDIDATES:

The Scholarship amount of Rs. 3.00 Lakh (one-time incentive) after successful completion of Ph.D. Degree based on the submission of the necessary documents as per the SOP.

Other terms and conditions: As per the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme Phase –II, funded by MeitY.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

The Minimum Qualifications for students to take admission into the Ph.D. Programs in Engineering Departments must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1. M.E/M.Tech. or equivalent in an appropriate area with a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.5 (on a 10-point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks). For SC/ST candidates, a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 (on a 10-point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks).

2. B.E./B.Tech. with an excellent academic record and with a CGPA/CPI of at least 8.0 (on 10-point scale) or equivalent (75% of marks). For graduates from IITs/NITs, the minimum CGPA/CPI requirement is 7.0 (on 10-point scale). For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA/CPI or 5% of marks.

HOW TO APPLY?

Candidates must fill out the Google Form and upload a PDF file containing their updated biodata, scanned copies of the duly filled-in application form, relevant certificates, and mark sheets. All scanned documents must be self-attested on every page and compiled into one merged PDF file. The complete file must be uploaded using the following Google link: Online Application Form

APPLICATION CHECKLIST:

Candidates must bring all original documents along with one set of photocopies of the following:

  1. Duly filled-in application form (hard copy).
  2. Mark sheets/Grade cards of:
    • Secondary (10th)
    • Higher Secondary (12th)
    • All university examinations (UG/PG).
  3. GATE/NET scorecard (if applicable).
  4. Proof of date of birth (e.g., birth certificate or Class 10 certificate).
  5. Valid community certificate (SC/ST/OBC) issued by a competent authority (not below the rank of Tahsildar), if applicable.
  6. For OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, the certificate must be issued on or after 1st April 2025.
  7. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the current employer, if applicable.
  8. Any other documents related to publications, patents and other testimonials.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. The admission core committee is responsible for the selection and recommendation.
  2. No TA/DA will be provided.
  3. Candidates should make their arrangements for the stay.
  4. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by email. Only selected candidates will be contacted.
