THE CELEBRATION OF DIWALI,2017 BY NCC CADETS

In accordance with social service activities of NCC, the NCC cadets of NIT Silchar celebrated the festival of lights by lighting the houses of the poor and the needy. Nearly 90 cadets from all 4 years participated in this event that was organised on the eve of Diwali, 2017. They walked all the away to the distant village of Borakhai which was located at a remote place about 10 km away from the NIT Silchar campus. The roads leading to the place were in a very bad condition and the construction of the concrete bridge on the way has not yet completed adding to the sad plight of the villagers. The cadets had a difficult time reaching the location. They gathered at a hall in the village where the villagers were already waiting as they had received the information beforehand. Nearly 110-120 families came to avail the help. Earthen lamps, oil, fruits and candles were distributed among the people of the village by the cadets. Children were gifted sweets. The necessary fund was raised from amongst the cadets who donated it at their own will. The event ended with the exchange of greetings between the cadets and the villagers. The villagers were overly delighted by this kind act of the cadets. The cadets too felt satisfied by this pious act of helping the needy which holds the true meaning of celebration of Diwali and they were grateful to the NCC organisation for giving them a chance at showing kindliness.
