About NIT Silchar
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, an
Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act,
was established in 1967 as Regional Engineering
College (REC) Silchar in Assam. In year 2002, it
was upgraded to the status of an NIT from REC.
NIT Silchar is situated on the banks of river Barak
and on a sprawling campus spread over 600 acres
of land on the outskirts of Silchar city. It is strewn with beautiful lakes and hillocks. NIT Silchar is a
fully residential Institution. At present it offers six
undergraduate courses in Engineering, and a number
of Post-Graduate courses in the civil, mechanical,
electrical, electronics & telecommunication and
computer science engineering.
The Department of Civil Engineering started its journey in 1977. Ever since the inception, it has been imparting quality education to under graduate students. The Department presently fosters five PG programs viz. Structural Engineering, Structural Dynamics & Earthquake Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering and, Water Resource Engineering. A good number of research scholars are carrying out research in various fields. There are about a dozen laboratories with various research and testing facilities. The faculty comprises of eminent specialists from diverse fields. The vision of the Department of Civil Engineering is to achieve unique identity by development of knowledge resources and highly competent Civil Engineers in various fields of Civil Engineering to meet local, national, and global economic and social needs.
NIT Silchar has been ranked 46th in the country in Engineering category by NIRF 2020. NIT Silchar has been ranked in the rank band 601-800 for Engineering in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Ranking in 2021. NIT Silchar is ranked at 6th in India and 275 in UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2020.

Call for Paper
Original/novel contributions are invited from the academicians, researchers, consultants as well as practicing engineers associated with advances and recent trends in structural engineering. Peer-reviewed select conference papers will be published in conference proceedings under the Structural Integrity book series, Springer, ISSN: 2522-560X (indexed in both Scopus and SCIE). Prof. Amir H. Gandomi |
Amir H. Gandomi is a Professor and an ARC DECRA Fellow at the Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology, University of Technology Sydney. Prior to joining UTS, Prof. Gandomi was an Assistant Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, USA and a distinguished research fellow in BEACON center, Michigan State University, USA. Prof. Gandomi has published over two hundred journal papers and seven books which collectively have been cited 23,000+ times (H-index = 70). He has been named as one of the most influential scientific minds and Highly Cited Researcher (top 1% publications and 0.1% researchers) for four consecutive years, 2017 to 2021. He also ranked 18th in GP bibliography among more than 12,000 researchers. He has served as associate editor, editor and guest editor in several prestigious journals such as AE of IEEE TBD and IEEE IoTJ. Prof Gandomi is active in delivering keynotes and invited talks. His research interests are global optimisation and (big) data analytics using machine learning and evolutionary computations in particular. |

Prof. Hussam Mahmoud |
Hussam Mahmoud is the George T. Abell Professor in Infrastructure in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University (CSU). He is Director of the Structural Laboratory at CSU and the academic advisor for the AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition. He obtained his BSc and MSc in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota and his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Prior to pursuing his Ph.D., he was the manager of the NEES Earthquake Laboratory at the UIUC. Dr. Mahmoud has authored over 230 publications and has given more than 100 presentations including 80 invited talks at national and international conferences. He has chaired and served on numerous technical committees, including the ASCE Committees on Fire Protection and on Multi-hazard Mitigation. He is the recipient of various awards, including the American Institute of Steel Construction early faculty career award, the R. J. Dexter Memorial Lecture award, the Air Force summer faculty fellowship award, and he has been invited to various symposia by the U.S. National Academies, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Institute of International Affairs. He has been recently selected by the National Academies to be among the New Voices cohort. His research has received media coverage through citations and interviews in numerous venues, including Nature Climate Change, The U.S. National Academy of Engineering, Smithsonian Magazine, and CNN. |

José António Correia |
José António Fonseca de Oliveira Correia (José A.F.O. Correia), born 1984 in Peso da Régua, Portugal, is a Researcher and an Invited Professor of INEGI and CONSTRUCT/FEUP of the University of Porto (Portugal). Since 2018, he is a Guest Teacher at the Engineering Structures Department of the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). He is an Invited Professor at the structural mechanics' section of the University of Coimbra (since 2016/09). He obtained the degrees BSc (2007) and MSc (2009) in Civil Engineering from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD). He is a specialist in steel and composite (steel and concrete) construction. He is a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering/Structures Engineering from the University of Porto(2015). He is co-author of more than 150 scientific journal papers in the most relevant scientific journals devoted to structural integrity, fatigue, and fracture of engineering materials and structures, 200 proceedings in international and national conferences, congresses, and workshops, 6 book chapters and 5 books. He was/is also a team member of the organization and participation in approved national (Portugal) and European research projects (17 research projects, >6.500.000,00€). He was/is the coordinator of 3 R&D projects and consulting services (university extension) budgeted in 300.000,00€ and 100.000,00€, respectively. In 2017, he was appointed as a chairman of the technical committee called "ESIS TC12 - Risk analysis and safety of large structures and components" of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS). He is a member of technical committees, CEN TC250 SC3 WG 1-9 Fatigue and CEN TC250 SC3 WG 1-10 Fracture, of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). He is a member of the editorial board of 25 scientific journals, editor-in-Chief, and Section Editor of 8 Scientific Journals, Book Series, and Sub-Series. He received more than 18 awards, grants, and scholarships. |

Prof. Ka-Veng Yuen |
Prof. Yuen was a representative of Macao for the 32nd and 33rd International Mathematics Olympics in 1992 and 1993. He received his BSc in Civil Engineering from the National Taiwan University in 1997 with no.1 ranking among 152 students and his MPhil in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with CGA 12/12 (i.e. straight A+). With the Harold-Hellwig fellowship, he entered at the California Institute of Technology and finished his doctorate study in 2 years and 7 months with GPA 4.1 (A+). His academic great grandfather was Prof. GW Housner, who was recognized as the “Father of Earthquake Engineering.” He was also the first recipient of the Housner’s fellowship. Prof. Yuen is the Dean of Graduate School of the University of Macau and Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). He also serves as a Council Member of the Escola Superior das Forças de Segurança de Macau (ESFSM) and Member of Board of Trustee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) of the Macau SAR Government. Prof. Yuen’s research interest includes Bayesian inference, model selection, model updating, structural health monitoring, structural reliability, and structural vibration control. His H-index is 36 (according to the Core database of Web of Science). His paper “Model selection using response measurements: Bayesian probabilistic approach” (co-authored with J.L. Beck) is one of the top 10 most cited papers among all papers published in the Journal of Engineering Mechanics (established since 1983) of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Furthermore, his single-author book “Bayesian methods for structural dynamics and civil engineering” (published by John Wiley & Sons in 2010) has attracted great attention of Bayesian methods for structural dynamics. In 2010 and 2018, he became the youngest UM full professor and distinguished professor, respectively. His major awards include: Young Investigator Award, International Chinese Association on Computational Mechanics; QIAN Weichang programme scholar, K.C. Wong Education Foundation; and Phi-Tau-Phi Honorary member. He is Editorial Board Member of Computer-aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Structural Control and Health Monitoring, and International Journal for Uncertainty Quantification, etc. |

Prof. Yogendra Singh |
Dr. Yogendra Singh is currently Professor in the Department of Earthquake Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. He obtained his B.E. in Civil Engg. from IIT Roorkee (then University of Roorkee) in 1989 in First Division with Honours and M. Tech. and Ph.D. in Structural Engg. from IIT Delhi in 1990 and 1994, respectively. His research interests include Performance-Based Design of Buildings and Bridges; Seismic Vulnerability and Risk Evaluation; Non-Linear Modelling and Analysis; Seismic Evaluation and Retrofitting of Structures; and Earthquake Engineering in Hilly Regions. He has more than 27 years of research and teaching experience, guided 14 Ph.Ds., published 76 research articles in refereed journals and presented more than 100 papers in national and international conferences. He has been member of several expert teams for post-earthquake damage surveys and is convener of the BIS expert group on Performance Based Seismic Design of Structures. He has collaborated with a number of leading universities and research organizations, including NORSAR, Norway, NGI, Norway, NTU, Singapore, Stanford University, USA, University of Edinburgh, UK, and University of Windsor, Canada, University of California, Los Angeles, US, and University of Porto, Portugal. |
