Academics@NITS
Bearing testimony to the fact that the fuel to the excellence of any Institute consists of its rich academic input, the Institute draws the best talent from across the length and breadth of the country, through a rigorous admission procedure which includes the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the CBSE every year.Encouraging the students to don a proactive role in various affairs of the Institute, it inculcates the virtue of synergy among the diverse personalities that make up the core of the Institute. The curriculum facilitates a pragmatic realisation among the student fraternity about the relevance of management and entrepreneurship in today’s highly integrated and global engineering environment. Regional Engineering College, Silchar was established in 1967 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Assam under the administration of a Society registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The college was transformed into National Institute of Technology in the year 2002, and bestowed with the status of Deemed University by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The multifarious reforms being introduced by the reformed Board of Governors, bringing about a tangible difference in the rudimentary paradigm of achieving a high standard in engineering education, are a relection of greater degree of autonomy exercised by the board in cardinal concerns. The college started its classes in 1977 and at present offers undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Identified as a “Centre of Excellence” by the Government of India, the Institute is reinventing itself to crush the competitionfrom its cotemporaries in various domains. Very optimistic developmental programs have been undertaken towards modernization of laboratories, computing facilities and library automation. Use of advanced teaching aids and computingfacilities provide extensive scope for the students to attain a very high standard required in the present day fast changing scenario of technology. A number of Post-Graduate courses have been approved by the AICTE and are expected to start shortly.
